Common Mental Health Issues

Sometimes we get this idea that there are a lot of people out there with mental health issues.

Sometimes we think that we are the only one with an issue.

Here are some stats on the prevalence of mental health problems in the states.

Please understand that to be diagnosed with a mental health disorder there must be significant impact on your daily life functioning.

If the problem is such that you can’t get through a normal day, then you need some kind of professional help.

Most mental health problems can be “cured” or at least brought under control with the right therapeutic interventions.

Anxiety and depression can be a recurring problem in a person’s life and can last for a short duration. Most people have had to deal with both of these problems at one time or another in their lives. When the problems become overwhelming and all consuming, then you may need professional help.

  • Anxiety 18%

Anxiety is the top mental health issue in this country. The stress and pressures of our modern society have increased our anxiousness.

There are a variety of treatments that help to overcome anxiety and many avenues to meet a patient’s particular needs and circumstances.

  • Depression 6.7%

Depression can be a serious problem that can if not treated, ultimately lead to thoughts of suicide.

Talk therapy in conjunction with medication is the number one treatment in dealing with depression.

There are also a number of holistic methods that can be used to decrease depressive thoughts.

  • ADHD 4.1% adults.

Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder.

Though thought of as a childhood mental health issue. Many adults carry the symptoms of ADHD into their adult years. ADHD can be help through therapy and medication. Many adults with ADHD live normal, healthy and creative lives.

  • Bipolar 2.6%

Bipolar disorder has become more prevalent in our society not because there are more adults with the disorder but because it has become a media focus.

With the help of medications and therapy interventions the disorder can be controlled and normalized.

The mood swings of the disorder are the problematic issue in a patience compliance with treatment.

  • Eating disorders.

20 million women and 10 million men have some form of eating disorders.

Our world is and has always been focused on appearance. This focus has caused huge issues among young people, female and males.

Binging, purging and substances can have a serious impact on a person’s health.
