Sabbath Rest, Really Rest

O14A0465

Sabbath

We live in a crazy world.

It seems there is never enough time to get anything done.

The demands of home, family and jobs are almost overwhelming and things look like they will get even busier.

We are at it 24/7, with hardly a moment just to breath.

Here’s a solution, stop.

I’m telling you to stop and I have someone on my side.

God is telling you to stop too.

Running around like the proverbial chicken with his head cut off is non-biblical and really it’s a sin.

God calls us to a Sabbath Day.

A day to rest, relax and refresh ourselves. A day set aside to worship and renew our lives. We are going and going and rarely take the time to slow down, to take it easy.

Even when we do relax we feel guilty because there is so much to do. Take an example from God. He rested on the seventh day. God even commands us to do the same, by making holy the Lord’s Day.

If you don’t take the time to relax and reflect it’s a sin, really.

So stop, slow down. You know you’re doing too many things anyway. Of all the things you are doing, you would do better to concentrate on just one or two and not ten or twelve. Do good things but do them well. That might mean simplifying your life and taking time for recharging your battery.

The world puts huge demands on you and your family.

You need to stand up against those demands and say no. There are too many people out there that have headaches, stomach problems, who can’t sleep and have any number of substance abuse problems simply because they have failed to follow the command of God to take a Sabbath and take a break.

We live in a world that no longer recognizes Sunday as the Lord’s Day and you may have to work on that day. However, that does not exempt you from taking a Sabbath and setting aside time for God and rest.

Of all the commands of God this should be easy to follow. Stop all the running around and take a rest, a Sabbath.
