OK, OK this is the last one.
…but you shall love your neighbor as yourself…
We have talked about loving your neighbor. We have talked about self-less love. However, we need to talk about loving yourself.
Some people, maybe many people would look at the verse and say “How can I love my neighbor when I don’t even like myself?” There are a lot of depressed, nervous, and suicidal thinking people out there in the world and you might be one of them. How can you love anyone else when you are filled with self-loathing and self-hate?
We can’t deal with this huge issue in this short daily message.
But know this, count on this, God loves you. He created you with all your quirks, blemishes, and handicaps. Know that He did it with a purpose and His purpose is for love. Whatever you don’t like about yourself is a slap at the hands of the one who made you. All of us, I mean all of us, were made with loving care by God.
Despite what people have said to you. Despite what has been done to you, know that God has put you on this earth for His unique purpose.
At the center of all of this, I mean this whole world is His eternal love for you. Eternal means forever and always.
If God loves you so much as to have fashioned you the way you are in all your tiny details, why can’t you do the same and love yourself?
Love what God loves and He loves you.
If this page is talking about you and your problems you may need to talk to somebody. Seek out a good friend, a pastor or get help from a professional counselor. But you need to talk to someone.
Do you believe? If you do then you know what I’m talking about. But maybe it’s time to put your belief to work and do what God wants for you. Renew your faith in God and get back on track. Get to church and get involved.
If you are not a believer, then understand that you were made by God and He wants you to believe in Him. He wants to give you eternal life through the salvation provided by His son Jesus. Find a Christian fellowship, a church or a Bible study group. Seek out believers in Christ, ask questions and seek advice. Become part of the loving community of God.
