Love 3

Day 3

Proverbs 3:12

For whom the Lord loves He reproves…

Love is all about flowers and bubbles and butterflies, right?

Wrong.

Love can also hurt a little, sometimes a lot. Parents love their children so much that they would do just about anything for them, even die for them. They won’t let their child play with fire and they won’t let the child drink poison.

Love is not about freedom, because by loving someone we must give up your freedom and accept responsibilities.

Love comes with concerns for the others’ well-being, physically, mentally, and spiritually. When the people we love are in danger we step in to help, even when they reject our help. At times our love must become “tough” as we immerse ourselves into the lives of our loved ones. We care enough to stop harm from coming to those we love. This includes tough decisions being made on their behalf.

Children must be disciplined for their own safety and protection. Adolescents must learn through restrictions and withdrawals that some behaviors are not acceptable in society. Though these disciplines often times hurt the parents more than the child, it is done out of our love for them.

The word a child might hear most growing up in “no”.

Not because we don’t want the best for our children but quite the opposite; we want them to survive their poor choices. Now here is the part you need to hear and understand, God is your father and loves you more than you even know. He will do anything to protect you, frankly, from yourself. God will punish, discipline, and reprove you for your own good. He loves you and wants the best for you.

  1. What is God saying no to you? In what areas of your life?

  2. What negative stuff is going on in your life right now?

  3. Is God using that to teach you some tough love lessons?

  4. If you are in a tight spot ask God for forgiveness and ask Him to show you the way out. When He shows you get a move on and don’t linger.
